Clutch Master Cylinder Replacement.
The clutch Master Cylinder on my 1974 Sonett needed rebuilding for the fourth time in 37 years, so I thought it would be a good idea to replace it.
I ordered a clutch master cylinder from Moss Motors, part number 513-323. Since it did not have a nipple on the cap for a remote fluid reservoir hose, I installed one. A 5/16 x ¼ hose barb was installed in the cap. On the underside, I installed a rubber “O” ring, followed by a washer, followed by a ½ x ¼ hose barb with the barb cut off. This was necessary because hose barbs have pipe threads (tapered).
My best piece of advice is not to connect the clevis shaft to the clutch Master until AFTER the clutch Master is bolted to the firewall. This will allow a lot more wiggle room in the engine compartment to get the clutch master into the hole in the firewall. The clevis shaft can be easily installed from inside the car; just push it in and insert the “C” clip, followed by the rubber boot, then attach it to the brake pedal. The cap does not leak and the new clutch master has no pedal play and feels more firm than the one it replaced.
